Structural Health Monitoring and Damage Detection, Volume 7

184 C. Rainieri et al. 16.5 Conclusions The opportunities provided by SOBI in the characterization of the influence of environmental and operational factors on natural frequency estimates in the absence of measures of those factors have been investigated in this paper. After a review of common approaches for removal of environmental influence on estimates, where the similarities of the basic assumptions of SOBI with those of other available methods have been remarked, quantitative comparisons between SOBI and linear regression have been made to validate the proposed approach. Time series of the natural frequencies of a continuously monitored cable have been processed, obtaining encouraging results and useful indications for future developments.
