24 Finite Element Model Updating Accounting for Modeling Uncertainty 221 application example a three-story three-bay 2D steel frame with nonlinear behavior subjected to seismic excitation. Different scenarios of modeling uncertainty were analyzed and eight unknown model parameters were estimated. It was shown that the proposed dual filtering approach outperforms the conventional parameter-only estimation approach, achieving better parameter estimates, avoiding divergence and estimation of unphysical parameter values, and attaining better match of the measured and unmeasured response quantities.
