22 Numerical Model for Human Induced Vibrations 185 22.4 Conclusion This paper has dealt with a new approach to model the coupling between a slender structure and people occupying it. The proposed approach shows to be accurate and reliable when considering both passive and active people. Such a result is achieved by splitting the influence of each person as the sum of a passive ground reaction force and an active one. The model has been validated by means of experimental tests performed on two different staircases showing a good agreement with experiments in terms of the predicted vibration levels and highlighting the fact that considering the empty structure response always leads to a consistent overestimation of the human induced vibrations.
