10 Holographic Measurement of Semi-transparent Tympanic Membrane Shape Using Multiple Angle Illuminations 81 Fig. 10.2 Dimension of the NIST gauge. The measured area is shown in the zoomed view within the dashed line Fig. 10.3 (a) A 3D mesh plot of measured NIST gauge. (b) 1D data of the redline in (a) along the X-axis Fig. 10.4 Histogram of the measured data marked red in Fig. 10.3b and the Gaussian fits at each peak The shape of a fresh cadaveric TM without any surface painting is measured using the multi-angle shape measurement system before and after injecting fluid into the middle ear cavity. The shape measurement result before the fluid injection is shown in the 3D mesh plot in Fig. 10.5a. Figure 10.5b and c is the 2D presentation of the raw data and the related high-order polynomial surface fitting before injecting fluid. The residual of the two is shown in a histogram in Fig. 10.5d with a standard deviation of 0.07 mm. Figure 10.5e and f shows the raw data and surface fitting after injecting fluid into the middle ear cavity with a standard deviation of 0.125 mm shown in (g). Injecting fluid into the middle ear cavity results in a bulging TM in the area (yellow coded) where the surface of the TM is in contact with the fluid.
